Training for the home mechanic

Cycletrek offer a range of bike maintenance and repair training courses to help you to get the most out of your bike. Participants learn the secrets of our bike whisperer Barrie who has had 27 years of experience building and fixing bikes. Covering everything from basic maintenance through to wheel building and drive train replacement there is a course for everyone.

Having 30+ years of experience in the bike industry, Barrie also trained at United Bicycle Institute in Portland, USA in suspension technology, as well as completing a bicycle frame building course with BREW Racing Frames (Blue Ridge Engineering Workshop) in North Carolina, USA.

Barrie will be leading the workshops based on the Park Tool School program. The Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair 4 (BBB-4) is an essential part of the training package. Barrie has chosen the BBB-4 as it is not only a comprehensive manual in itself, but also has excellent web based backup. Valued at $59.95, it is only $49 when you do any of our courses.

It is really worthwhile to do a maintenance course even if you usually have your bike serviced by a shop. Knowing how to adjust brakes and gears, etc will give you the confidence to fix it yourself to keep yourself going if something goes wrong on the ride.

Get 3 to 4 like minded people together to save money by organising yourselves a group course. Contact Barrie to book your training course for a date convenient for you and some friends, or a one on one course is also available where as the only participant you will get intensive learning and the course can be modified to your special interest if desired.

Special price of $125 per night to stay in our eco-cabin if doing both Cycletrek Starters and Cycletrek Intermediate 1 on 1 bike maintenance courses on consecutive WEEK days.
